According to figures posted
on the
Digital Spy and
Roobarb
forums New Earth was watched by an average of 8 million
viewers last night. - 38.6% of the available audience.
ITV's showing of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
repeated last year's tradition of performing badly against
the show attracting an average of 5 million viewers.
By audience share and number of viewers the opening episode
of the new series was the most watched programme of the day.
The ratings win has now been reported by
BBC Entertainment News which quotes a BBC spokesman as
saying the corporation is
"thrilled" at the result.

David Tennant
in a new BBC Drama
MediaGuardian.co.uk
report that David Tennant is to film a 90-minute BBC1 drama in which he
plays the victim of a car crash who suffers a debilitating brain injury.
Tennant is to begin filming the BBC1 drama Recovery next month, playing
Alan, a self-made building site manager who attempts to rebuild his life
after his car accident.

2005 series nominated for TV's top honour.
The 2005 series of Doctor Who, starring Christopher Eccleston and
Billie Piper, has been nominated for Best Drama Series in British
Television's most prestigious awards, the BAFTAs (British Academy of
Film and Television Arts).
Doctor Who faces stiff competition from three other critically
acclaimed programmes - BBC Two's graphic medical drama Bodies,
Channel 4's outrageous comedy-drama Shameless, and BBC One's slick
spy show Spooks.
Doctor Who is also nominated in several other categories:
The Pioneer Audience Award for Best Programme of 2005
Best Writer - Russell T Davies
Best Director - Joe Ahearne
Break-through Talent - Edward Thomas (Production Design)
New Media Developer - Jo Pearce, Andrew Whitehouse (Attack of the
Graske)
The awards will be presented on Sunday 7 May (for the main prizes)
and Friday 19 May (for the behind-the-scenes awards)
